Legacy of Resilience: Cultivating Tradition, Quality, and Sustainability
Nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of the Natural Reserve Cerro Kilambé, our farm stands as a tribute to the resilience and ingenuity of generations past. Mr. Bibiano Montenegro, without formal education, cultivated this land with determination and vision, laying the foundation for our family’s legacy in coffee cultivation. Now, as we carry forward this rich heritage, we are driven by a desire to honor his legacy and take our farm to new heights. The goal is to not only maintain but to expand upon Bibiano’s achievements, aspiring to export our coffee beans to global markets. With a harmonious blend of traditional wisdom and innovative techniques, we cultivate our coffee beans with care, ensuring quality and sustainability at every step of the journey.

Our mission extends beyond the mere production of exceptional coffee. It is a testament to our commitment to forging direct connections with buyers, liberating ourselves from reliance on intermediaries, and bolstering investment within our community. Despite our unwavering dedication and efforts to raise wages since the beginning of our journey, we encounter challenges in keeping pace with inflation. When fair compensation for our coffee is not realized, meeting operational expenses and enhancing working conditions becomes arduous. Nevertheless, we persist with resilience, actively pursuing innovative strategies to flourish despite these challenges.

Our coffee beans are sourced from our family-owned farm located within the natural reserve of Cerro Kilambé. As coffee farmers, we adhere to strict regulations mandated by law to preserve the delicate ecosystem of the reserve. This includes measures such as avoiding planting coffee near water sources and refraining from using pesticides with high toxicity levels.
At our farm, we prioritize harmony between our business operations and environmental conservation. By following sustainable practices, we aim to protect the diverse flora and fauna that call Cerro Kilambé home. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond mere compliance with regulations; it is a fundamental aspect of our ethos as stewards of the land.
We take pride in our efforts to cultivate coffee in a manner that respects and nurtures the environment. By choosing our coffee beans, you can be assured that you are supporting not only a high-quality product but also responsible and sustainable farming practices that contribute to the preservation of our natural resources.
What processing method is used for your green coffee beans?
At Finca La Cimarrona, we currently exclusively use the washed processing method for our green coffee beans. This traditional approach, passed down through generations, involves removing the cherry pulp before drying the beans. While we focus on this method for now, we are open to exploring other techniques in the future as we strive for quality and innovation.
How do you ensure the quality and freshness of your coffee beans?
At Finca La Cimarrona, quality and freshness are paramount. We start by carefully selecting seeds for germination and continue to nurture our plants, monitoring for diseases and nutrient deficiencies. During picking season, only the ripest cherries are selected. Our dedicated workers play a crucial role in maintaining quality standards. We also prioritize machinery maintenance and innovate with new technologies to ensure freshness at every step.
