PLANTING
1. SEEDLINGS
Seedlings mark the delicate genesis of our coffee journey. Bedded in a carefully crafted layer of soil and a layer of sand, they develop robust roots, essential for future growth. As their roots strengthen, we meticulously sort and select those free from deformities, readying them for transplantation. These chosen few are then transferred into plastic bags filled with prepared soil, setting the stage for the next step.
2. Nursery home
In the nursery home, the journey of our seedlings continues as they are delicately transplanted into plastic bags, beginning their development into sturdy young plants during approximately six months. Despite our best efforts, some seedlings may falter due to the stresses of transplantation. Yet, this natural selection process ensures that only the strongest and most resilient plants continue their journey towards becoming integral members of our coffee farm’s thriving ecosystem.
3. PLANTING
Transplantation marks a pivotal moment in the journey of our coffee plants, as they transition from the confines of plastic bags to their permanent home in the coffee lot. With utmost care and precision, each sturdy sapling is gently removed from its temporary container and tenderly placed into the rich, fertile soil of the designated plot. Here, amidst the sun-dappled landscape and nourishing earth, these plants will take root and flourish, their journey towards becoming productive coffee trees reaching a new chapter.
After planting coffee trees in the designated lots, it’s a waiting game. Depending on factors like variety, shade, water, and altitude, it can take up to three years for the trees to bear coffee cherries. During this time, we carefully tend to each tree, ensuring optimal conditions for growth and eagerly anticipating the first harvest.
